As a student content creator, I assist the University of the West of England's marketing and social media teams to create content that paints a picture of what it’s like to be a student here to prospective students. This is done through vlogging and blogging, social media takeovers, case study creation, filming and photoshoots and generating creative ideas - all of which have improved my confidence, creativity and ability to use editing software and social media platforms.

I was an editorial assistant for a week, where I wrote tweets for ecancer’s Twitter to promote ecancer’s content, posted videos and news stories on ecancer’s website, produced a reference pack for a scientific article and wrote a news article to communicate an advance in oncology research to doctors, nurses and oncologists. Project Assistant Intern

I assisted the delivery of two projects (the world's first 48-hour European BioBlitz and NatureGram Futures2021). The world's first 48-hour European BioBlitz aimed to encourage the public to engage with nature and showcase science in an interesting and entertaining way, through an iNaturalist project and live interviews and quizzes from researchers. NatureGram Futures 2021 aimed to explore Instagram as a means of communicating research (particularly ecology/zoology/environmental research) with an end goal of creating a programme of content for the Futures 2021 project as part of European Researchers Night on 24th & 25th September. I also assisted with data processing for a project called In My Nature and helped run the Communicate conference. For the online Communicate conference, I was responding to e-mails, calls and direct messages to help delegates with any technical issues and keeping social media channels up-to-date with what exciting sessions were happening. My specific role involved creating programming schedules/timetables, writing, generating and scheduling social media posts, liaising with researchers and Instagramers to curate content, sourcing imagery/video content for social media and supporting marketing and activation of partner communications channels. Invertebrate Sandwich Placement

I spent my placement year at Bristol Zoo Gardens, where I increased my knowledge and enthusiasm for invertebrates by carrying out general husbandry, researching the effects of abiotic factors on the behaviours of Golden Weaver Ants (Polyrhachis dives), writing Invertebrate of the month articles (links below), carrying out a home garden invertebrate survey and then producing a guide for the public to do the same to aid citizen science projects, and creatively enhancing displays to portray the animals natural environment to zoo visitors.
