My immediate goal with this firm is to continue to educate, advocate and influence conservation in Florida and help organizations work on complex environmental issues. We recognize not every environmental non profit can afford to have a full expert staff all the time, we act as surge staff to work on specific issues. Our team will integrate our solid scientific foundation, knowledge of environmental policy and savvy negotiating skills into protecting and restoring Florida’s environment and be instrumental in ensuring a healthy future for Florida’s citizens. Starting my own consulting firm has allowed me to work on key environmental issue the state faces and to focus exclusively on the hard issues. We have also recognized that the Environmental movement is missing major support for candidates that work hard to protect the environment, I hope to ensure that the candidates that will protect and restore the environment are elected. Managing the staff, volunteers and interns, grant and proposal writing, fundraising, analysis of environmental issues, public relations and media outreach, board development and strategic planning, budgeting, building coalitions, problem solving, position papers and letters on environmental issues were all part of my daily job at TAS. I took the annual budget from 75k to 350k in my 8 years and as a result amplified Audubon's voice to a much larger and more effective degree. We were very successful in protecting green space, preventing pollution, moving restoration efforts forward and encouraging smart growth, which ultimately helped protect critical habitats for wildlife. I taught a multitude of courses, such as environment and society, south Florida ecology and environmental science. In addition I organized the labs for the environmental studies department, advised students headed toward careers in environmental science and made the labs a good experience for TAs and students alike. I also improved the field trips and the quality of the south Florida ecology labs during my time in the department. I started the AP Environmental science program and Ecology club at coral reef senior high, coached volleyball and took students on many field trips to the everglades. I had students that won the Fairchild challenge, participated in environmental debates and competed in environmental competitions. I thought it was critical to get as many students as possible outdoors for a first hand experience of nature and scientific studies.
