My PhD project, as part of BIOPLAST4SAFE, is focused on the feeding habits of seven commercial shrimp species, investigated with high-throughput sequencing technique, related to microplastic ingestion rates. Environmental monitoring through macrozoobenthos analisys and identification into several projects, such as SAPEI P0020412 'Environmental monitoring for the link HVDC Sardegna - Continente', MSFR (Marine Strategy Framework Directive), GoFree ('Introduction of the striped humpback shrimp (Plesionika edwarsii) fishing in Sardinia) and many other studies carried out in Montalto di Castro, Castel Porziano, Follonica and Livorno Harbour. Study of microplastic pollustion effects on the feeding habits of different fish species via stomach content analysis. Sampling mission in ISPRA vessels in various GSA (11 and 10). Achieved objectives: Identification at species level of the main taxonomic groups of benthic macrozoofauna: Polychaeta, Mollusca, Crustacea, Echinodermata, with a focus on Amphipoda. Ecological framework of species and use of environmental bioindicators. Statistical analysis of the data and drafting of final reports. Show less

I worked on a project about the effect of ocean acidification on the settlement of benthic communities. The project put a focus on the settlement of Mollusca component into P. oceanica meadows in different condition of pH and microhabitats. The activity includes the field work, the sorting of benthic taxa in macrogroups and the subsequent identification of Mollusca species. I worked on the identification and monitoring of Great White Shark local population, using “Dorsal Fin ID Method”. In this occasion, I also learned the “Catch, tag and release Method” for benthic shysharks and fish species of commercial interest, and the analysis of the stomach contents. I actively participated to the post-mortem dissection of two sperm whales and other filed activities.
