Bookstr is a New York-based book culture-meets-pop culture website with 1.5 million followers on Facebook and 53.7K followers on Instagram. While I was based in New York (July ‘17 - December ‘18) I worked in the Bookstr offices in Manhattan. Though originally an editorial intern, I was quickly assigned the greater responsibility of editor, managing a team of writers, producing and editing multiple articles per day for an audience of 1.5 million. In addition, I was also in charge of hosting interviews with high profile authors and industry professionals such as Karin Slaughter, David Morrell, Lee Child, Meg Wolitzer, Peter James, Andrew Gross, Sheetal Sheth, Mark Greaney, LIGHTS, Joey Graceffa and others, as well as conducting editorial interviews with the likes of Deborah Harkness, Max Joseph, and Daniel Handler. While at Bookstr, I was instrumental at coordinating partnerships with publishers such as Hachette, Central Avenue Publishing, Grand Central, Candlewick and HarperCollins, as well as companies such as AMC and Insight Editions, creating sponsored content and hosting interviews in order to promote these companies’ books, authors and adaptations. In addition to publishing over 400 articles with Bookstr, with views ranging up to 97,000, I also worked closely with the social media department, working on social strategies to increase engagement across our social platforms, using Sprout Social and TweetDeck.

Publicity Assistant
-
Dec 2016 - Apr 2017
The internship is primarily focused on publicity tasks - these include organizing book launches and events, sending out review copies of new books to the press, keeping track of social media and the company website and managing web orders, as well as using systems such as Sage and Nielsen. While at Lilliput I have also gained a limited working knowledge of HTML. Below is a link to a review of Words By Women, an International Women's Day event I organized in aid of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, which featured readings from writers Kerrie O'Brien, Maggie Armstrong, Sarah Maria Griffin, Rosita Sweetman, Nicole Flattery and Sydney Weinberg. Lilliput Press also have a physical shop with a small turnover, so interns share the management of direct sales in store. The publicity intern also maintains the website, writing news posts and managing and creating content.
