I consider myself very fortunate that I had the opportunity to have Laura as my direct supervisor early in my career. It was her coaching around my development as a young leader that enabled me to advance my career in directions I never thought possible at the time. Laura had a direct influence on shaping the work ethic and value system that I have today and it was her "leading by example" attitude that inspired me to want to do grow within the company. Laura instinctively knows how to size up the strengths of people around her and cultivate the potential of the individual. She taught me how to challenge the status quo so that the bar around performance was constantly being raised. She helped me to become more strategic in how I go about analyzing my business and how to leverage the tools and resources around me more effectively to create greater capacity in myself and my team. Laura has an incredible skill of seeing relevant patterns and processes within the work; she can analyze root cause and create sustainable solutions that others can often overlook. Her teaching around the importance of landing expectations, breaking down the details and ensuring strong follow-thru helped me become better at performance management in the many years that have followed. What I admire most about Laura is the level of psychological ownership she takes in what she says she will do. She is completely committed to a strong value system she has in place. Honesty, Integrity, Humility and Perseverance are trademarks to her brand and become the pillars of what you can expect when you have the privilege to work with her. I consider her the best coach and mentor an individual can have and highly recommend her as an asset to any organization searching for an effective leader.

Laura Barnes was one of the most dedicated, hard working, and effective managers at Jacobson's. She truly gave 110% every day. As floor manager, her strong work ethic served to motivate her staff. She treated each an every person - staff and customers - with respect and by doing so, garnered their respect for herself. Customers often sought out her advice. Laura is one of those unique people who can see the big picture. She could look at a space and calculate what kind of product, and how much could fit in the space. Not only did she do this for small spaces, but for the whole, huge, warehouse-type store that is Jacobson's. Everything fit like a puzzle and was still accessible to customers. In addition to her analytical skills, Laura is a very creative person. She understands good, solid merchandising; and was known for creating beautiful displays that helped to sell product. Anyone who hires Laura will be getting an intelligent person who knows how to think on her feet, take a project from concept through completion successfully, and do so with the utmost of integrity.
