We help businesses, i.e. Cannabis, penalized by IRC 280(e), with business strategies and accounting procedures to make sure they don't miss any Inventory/Cost of Goods Sold expense they are legally entitled to. I often hear that marijuana businesses are doing their own books or using people who aren't trained in the Cannabis industry. Either of which can be a very costly mistake. Even if they never get audited (which is not likely) doing the accounting on a cash basis and/or not complying with GAAP and IRC 471 can cost a small cannabis business thousand of extra dollars per year in taxes. We read tax court cases to see exactly what is being allowed and disallowed to make sure our clients are fully compliant and pay the least amount of taxes they are legally required to. Show less

In over 25 years of running, streamlining, and advising businesses in a number of areas, I have discovered a few key places where many companies consistently bleed money and leave themselves open to liabilities. There are many solutions to fix these problems and close potential liabilities. Often times these solutions produce savings for years to come and eliminating liabilities is never a bad thing. My process is very different from most people. I learn about your business, your goals and what you would like to accomplish. The potential solutions are presented from an educational perspective. I don't want you to make a choice or decision that you don't understand. Every solution is tied directly to the return on investment. The Cannabis industry faces many unique challenges due to 280(e) and absolutely 0 leeway on following GAAP and IRC 471 to even deduct their Cost of Goods Sold. They are THE most audited businesses. There are many people advising in the industry that are still recommending things like using IRC 263(a) which has been disallowed in every audit and tax court case. I read every tax court case I can for the details so I can help my clients take advantage of every legal deduction available. I highly recommend that business owners in the industry ask their financial people a few key questions to try to judge their audit exposure. Tax bills in the hundreds of thousand of dollar range are common. Call or email me for a short conversation. 15 minutes and knowing what to ask can save you that surprise tax bill! Show less
