What joining LoamBio means: For business: develop and support a consistent data management structure that we can scale enterprise and grow with continuous solutions. They (and now me too!) are here to make a positive impact on the environment, agriculture, and climate. For researchers and collaborators: 1. Simplify and automate data workflows to provide accessible and transparent one-stop-shop for housing and securing our biotechnology and agricultural research. 2. Get everyone from different locations speaking the same operational lingo, translate lab, greenhouse, and field agronomical research into valuable data assets. 3. Unleash the quality of the rigorous and academic research and hands-on farming practices into data insights that we trust. For me, you, and everyone: Being part of a global network of the best experts to help tackle climate crisis and support farming by improving the way we manage our land. By working with nature we evolve and bring a positive impact on climate and food systems so we can have resources to feed your children, my children and anyone! Show less

Coffee Farmer Scientist Entrepreneur
-
Mar 2013 - Present
It all started in 2013 with a family starting a new retirement hobby/business. I went to Fenicafé in MG, for networking to capture new trends and technologies in coffee production. To start-up as an entrepreneur with family I was challenged to shift from scientist to agronomist again. Yet, working with passion for a small family-based project I focused on developing sustainable agroforestry coffee production system in the interior of São Paulo. We innovated the farming system with improved nutrient management with all organic inputs with planted mucuna-preta provided main nitrogen and carbon sources. We brought Neem as a dual function of wind breaker together with integrated pest management. Our forest yields also fruits (avocados, coconut, etc) and hosts a diverse ecosystem that protects and enhances the quality of coffee. Our crops yield beautifully, these methods derived the highest quality coffee, ranked in the top 100 coffees of 2017 from Feira Internacional do Café, MG. To work as a scientist that needs to continue production, shows that when based on solid foundation, growth and improvements are ever-green. Post-harvest and production management have been continued by Farm owner. One can learn a lot from a coffee experience. It starts at planting with nature. Show less

Global need to implement new guidelines and data quality of Field R&D to assure our Product Labels. Hired as the first of LA DuPont Crop Protection Data Management person, I worked with Product Technical Managers, Field Researchers, Registration and Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Product Stewardship & Renewal to improve processes that fit our ever-green agricultural season in Latin America. In addition to implementing solid processes (Six-sigma) we visited fields, created global SOP's and worked establishing regional methodology and quality control under good protocol reviews. We finally developed personalized tools (B2B, field, office) for data extraction, visualization and analysis that speed up data review and decision making. To manage our projects, I worked together with Accenture and using Scrum Agile Methods we created a modern web platform that enabled integration of project management and research data. I worked strategically with data quality assurance, change management, surveying and training the entire Latin America and Central America Field R&D Team on our Workflows, Systems and Tools that enabled digital translation of Field Efficacy And Crop Safety Research. The result is hands-on data visualization with a few clicks from data warehouse in high quality standards, harmonized and reliable for supporting our product development. Show less

In search of sunshine I found myself working in sunflower fields...and canola, and wheat and barley among other crops. My traineeship goal was to find where in the agricultural marketplace I wanted to work in. Whether to continue in academic research, governmental, or private. Together with my supervisor, we proposed that crop rotation affected soil microbial activity, and we would like to understand whether this benefited crop productivity. Field assessments, data collection, brought into laboratory assays of soil microbial community composition and activity (qPCR, ELISA, RNA, SIR, CLPP, EEA) among other agronomic plant health and soil quality and fertility assessments. Testing of new methods to micro-scale commonly enzyme assessments to correlating enzyme activity to nutrient availability resulted in good recommendations to local farmer practices, communication and exchange of learned know-how about soil conditions in the region. Our work complied to continuing efforts on learning best environmental practices and soil ecology, thus we presented at the Soil Ecological Society of Australia in a Conference in Tasmania. The collaboration among academia, unbiased governmental agency, agricultural producers with the highest standards of scientific approach breaks the barriers of what we repeatedly do, and our efforts drives towards what we want to become: a more sustainable agricultural society.
