I worked with Lan-Yin at CMC Markets on an extremely complex project with an exceptionally talented team. After we delivered that project, we largely agreed Lan-Yin was the only person who's work had zero problems in production. She's professional to a fault and will get to the heart of your business problems and provide robust, maintainable solutions without hassle. If you're considering Lan-Yin for your organisation, I'd be happy to provide a reference.

Gavin Hardman

Lan-Yin is smart and she gets things done. If you need intelligent thinking and a project delivered on time then you should hire her.

A welcome return to the Firefly Group, this time working in the hedge fund arm of the business. The first 3 years I was based in Sydney, where I worked as part of the team re-writing the trading system into a micro services architecture, as well as providing daytime assistance to the Australian and Asian funds. During this time I wrote a large part of the core of the trading platform, e.g. live pricing that handles hundreds of millions of ticks a day, integration with Bloomberg and Thompson Reuters, etc. I moved back to the UK in July 2022 and am now working in the London HQ.

I was part of the team that successfully transitioned 700,000 customers from the ANZ Share Investing platform onto CMC’s platform - the largest stockbroking migration in Australian history. I developed new functionality for the platform, as well as making significant improvements to scalability and robustness, in order to handle the higher volume of customers. Red Deer (part of the Firefly Group) is a fintech start-up that was created from a highly successful hedge fund. Our product aggregates real-time data from a huge variety of sources, and presents relevant investment information to investment mangers and traders. The product launched in Q3 2016 and already has an impressive client list, including some of the largest hedge funds in London. I am part of the team that designed and developed this high-volume, multi-threaded application that aggregates, filters and delivers push-based, real-time information and live pricing to users’ browsers.

A welcome return to MRM, to help them to develop a major new initiative for Dulux - an interior design service for the public, called Amazing Space. I was part of the team that developed a high-volume distributed CQRS system, utilising SQL Azure, Mongo DB, Azure Service Bus and windows services, using a DDD architectural pattern. Another visit to How Splendid, this time to develop a large (multi-tenant/region/language) Umbraco website hosted on MS Azure. This became a very interesting project due to the need to significantly extend Umbraco, so that the site could be hosted on an Azure Cloud Service web farm. RiskFirst is an award-winning financial/technology start-up, that uses large data sets to provide analytics to the pensions and investment markets. They produce a SaaS product called PFaroe that is an enormously complex distributed system, and is based on huge amounts of data (the largest database is in the region of 15 TB). I spent most of my time working on the Asset Valuation subsystem, generally adding features for clients such as LGIM, as well as performing significant re-design and optimization in order to simplify and streamline the process.

While at MRM, I developed a real-time website for the Home Nations football teams (England, Scotland, etc) that updates match events and social media interactions in real-time. I architected/developed a distributed system that automatically process match results, and also processes a huge amount data from social media to provide real-time updates of tweets/photos/check-ins that occur around a match. At peak times, the system receives and processes 1% of all publicly available tweets. I developed a number of websites while at Splendid, ranging from complex flight-booking sites to media-rich HTML5 canvas applications. I also developed Facebook applications, and gained extensive experience in the Facebook API. I was part of the team that developed the MS Kinect Experience - this was a high-tech interactive roadshow in which groups of friends could try-out the MS XBox Kinect. It was tightly integrated into Facebook, so that gamers’ profiles and photos become part of their Kinect experience. I designed and developed the central database for all booking and event data. I architected and developed the set of core services that are used by multiple user-interface points throughout the experience, and developed a Facebook App to allow for pre-booking of the event.

I enhanced a variety of internal LOB systems that handle contract management and revenue collection for Disney-licensed products and toys, using .NET 4.0, MVC, Javascript, nHibernate, Castle Windsor and SQL Server. The main project was to integrate royalty systems for Disney and Marvel (who were recently acquired), involving the automated creation and processing of quarterly royalty statements from third parties. I developed a number of new sites and web services for this client, using .NET 4.0, MVC 2, Entity Framework 4, SQL Server 2008 plus the standard web technologies. The main projects were a localised competition website for the launch of Windows Phone 7, and a Facebook App for the launch of the XBox Kinect. This was my second visit to this client; during this time I developed an extremely complex site for them – the Flora Heart Age Tool, which is a very high-profile project for Unilver. During this time I was also part of the team that developed the award-winning IBM "Seer" Android application for Wimbledon 2009. While at Ogilvy, I developed a large variety of websites, from large global sites localised into multiple languages, to an extremely high-performance real-time football site for EURO 2008, that took 3.5 million hits during the tournament. In this time, I used a whole host of web technologies - ASP.NET 2.0, C#, HTML, Javascript/JQuery, Web Services, SQL Server. Generally, I provided consultancy and performed enhancements to an existing (huge, over 1 million lines of code) n-tier Registrations system, using VB.NET, C#, VB6, COM+ and SQL Server. I developed a bespoke Direct Debit fee-collection module for an existing n-tier Registration system. I was responsible for the full project lifecycle of this project, and produced a fully automated DD processing module. This was a permanent position for a major blue-chip software consultancy; I worked on a variety of client accounts and projects, ranging from Investment Banking through to the Healthcare industry. I used a variety of different technologies, from C/C++ to VB6, COM+, and .NET. In this time I worked in a variety of different roles, starting as a Graduate Trainee and progressing to Development Lead on a multi-million pound project.
