My most significant achievement was my role in the negotiation and launch of an airport wide recycling program, Cairns’ largest recycling project by a private enterprise to date. I also contributed to airport Environment and Sustainability Strategies, Environmental Management System (ISO14000) & Environmental Management Plans. I gained knowledge and experience of environmental legislation compliance and reporting in an airport context, including dealing with wildlife damage mitigation permits, plans and reports.

Major projects I was involved with in this role included work on Environmental Management Plans for the maintenance of electrical infrastructure, as well as the presentation of Wet Tropics Contractor inductions for employees working on this infrastructure. This role included field experience identifying and mapping weeds, GIS software use and editing, formatting and proofing of reports and EMPs. My familiarity with state and federal environmental legislation, particularly EPBC Act, Nature Conservation Act and Land Protection (pest and stock route management) Act as well as electrical industry codes of practice was greatly enhanced, as was my experience of small grants processes and applications for rainforest restoration works.
