Dissertation Project: Geochemical Investigation of Abandoned Metal Mine Sites in The North Pennines - Middlehope Shield The project is part of OREsome Project which is a two-year project to aid better understanding and improved management of 8 "at risk" structures relating to the areas' mining heritage. The sites are classifeied as Scheduled Monuments by Historic England and the North Pennines is Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty nad UNESCO Global Geopark. Roles: - Collecting water, sediment, and plant samples from the mine adit, wetland and adjacent river. - Determine the concentration of heavy metals from the mine adit in the water and the sediment in terms of spatial distribution from the mine adit input. - Measure heavy metal concentration in the macrophytes at the washing floor. - Measure the concentration of heavy metal at the adjacent receiving water body, Middlehope Burn, before and after the input from wetland at the washing floor. - Perform correlation analysis between handheld XRF measurement and laboratory analysis result. - Make technical report and presentation regarding the findings.
