Bio
Jennifer Souers Chevraux
Laine is an experienced, strategic, and visionary leader in arts administration, who would be an asset to any institution she serves. I first worked with Laine when she hired me to present one of three board development presentations in a series, which would enable the museum to launch a new strategic planning initiative. Through an innovative program of executive education, Laine provided her management team with the knowledge and tools necessary to move the museum forward toward a reimagined vision for serving its community. I enthusiastically endorse Laine as a great addition to arts and cultural organizations seeking creative and collaborative leadership at the highest level.
Marie-Dominique D.
Laine and I both attended the Getty Leadership Institute in summer 2017. I was impressed by her presentation and leadership skills. During the on-site program, we had the opportunity to discuss various museum projects and it was clear she demonstrated an intuitive leadership because she understands herself and her discipline so well.

As a visionary and entrepreneurial leader, I’ve inspired organizational change at the ZMA, by • Providing charismatic institutional leadership, having successfully restored and reorganized the museum’s organizational culture, first developing and implementing a forward-looking three-year operational plan in 2014, then undertaking an American Alliance of Museum (AAM) Museum Assessment Program (MAP) grant in spring 2015, which resulted in our acceptance in AAM’s Small Museum Accreditation Academy program in December 2015. • Leading the ZMA’s first strategic planning initiative since 1998, defining institutional goals to strengthen the ZMA’s governance structure, creating a vibrant culture of philanthropy, and transforming the visitor experience for museum guests. • Directing the internal and external affairs of the museum with agility, overseeing its finances, personnel, development, marketing, membership, outreach, educational programming, and curatorial initiatives. • Inspiring a diverse, sixteen-member Board of Directors, diplomatically steering board committees, motivating a staff of nine dedicated and exceptional employees to further the museum’s mission, and cultivating a volunteer-team composed of enthusiastic student interns, docents, and members of our Educational Programming, and Arts Advisory Councils. • Administering and enriching the museum’s growing budget, more than doubling it in three years by developing donor, grant, event rental, museum store, programming, and membership income streams. • Writing successful grants applications to state and national organizations for educational programming, operating support, and institutional and professional development totaling $250,000. • Leveraging museum resources to offer enhanced programs through newly formed strategic partnerships with the local foundations, universities, colleges, and organizations including Head Start, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and inner-city schools.
