Istorima is a non-profit organization established to create a large Greek oral histories archive. At Istorima we will aim to hear, record and gather over 50,000 stories during the next four years, from every city and village in Greece. This initiative was conceived by journalist Sofia Papaioannou and historian Katherine Fleming. During an interview, as Papaioannou interviewed Fleming, they discovered something strong that connects them: their love of Greece and its many stories. Istorima is being implemented with a founding grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation as part of its “Recharging the Youth” initiative, in collaboration with Simon Fraser University. 1500 young people from all over Greece will be trained in the techniques of interviewing and oral history, and will work with us.
