While at the Secretariat as Accountant in Charge of Grants, my role was to coordinate financial activities of the different grants. These included the Civil Society Fund (CSF) and Partnership Fund (PF) worth $120 million under the oversight of Deloitte Uganda as the Fund Manager. Sophia took an integral part in this process that saw her involved in the various grants and finance management work with a wide span of stakeholders ie the Aid Development Partners, Government Ministries and Line departments, Local Governments, Self Coordinating Entities and NGOs under the HIV /AIDS Programming. Other Grants include IGAD HIV cross board program (Busia, Malaba, Bibia, Oraba and the Karamoja sub region). The program also interfaced with the cultural leaders (across Uganda) as key influencers in the HIV/AIDS programming. Grants package also included the UNAIDS and UNFPA funding as supplementary funding to the CSF and PF. Sophia was further involved in capacity building and enhancement programs for sub grantees to improve on grant utilization, reporting and mainstreaming. Show less

While at AON, Sophia managed a ZAIN project. A medical Scheme for ZAIN staff across Uganda with over 50 clinics accessed for treatment. The scheme was run as a tripartite (ZAIN- Aon Uganda and Inter Global South Africa). The billing and payment to the clinics had been messed up for over two year threatening the business line. Sophia reconciled records for all the 55 clinics. Sophia also supported the Account Handlers to reconcile premiums which was a game changer in retention of the clientele. • Senior Accountant
      • Nov 1996 - Oct 2008

Started as a front desk administrative assistant/receptionist and secretary to management meetings. Over the year grew to the level of Senior Accountant. My contributions to RHSP saw the Automation of the systems ie financial, payroll, logistic and fleet management. The systems enhances the financial efficiencies and reporting thus attracting large funding for the HIV research interventions that included the famous Circumcision trial project in Uganda. Working with Acclaim Africa (Finance Manager), Sophia championed robust internal control systems that to date have kept RHSP a top notch NGO in the HIV research and programming. Show less
