At Banfield Pet Hospital I started out as an assistant-in-training. Since then, I have become proficient with IV catheter placement, phlebotomy, operation of anesthetic equipment, and monitoring critical patient status during surgery and recovery. I ended as the senior veterinary technician on staff. I trained receptionists and veterinary assistants for the hospital. While surgery is my passion at Banfield, I was also responsible for routine hospital tasks, such as stocking the pharmacy, cleaning and troubleshooting all in-house lab machines, fixing computer software complications, etc. I was the number-one “Wellness Plan” seller three months in a row. After graduation, I started back at Banfield to continue to work while I search for my career.

I did an internship with Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation, where I helped do surveys of land and mapped a variety of species into a Nature Serve program, which is GIS-based. This required me to take data from fieldwork and translate it onto a topographic map. During the surveys, we counted and logged endangered species (terrestrial and aquatic). Sometimes these surveys required intensive hikes and camping trips. I learned how to test soil, water, and air quality, using various techniques.
