Planned, created curriculum and taught English to high school, college and adult Japanese men and women before church services on Tuesdays and Sundays each week since 1998. After the lessons, students would attend the worship service. On Sundays, I planned and led English Lunchtime after the church worship service. Foreigners and Japanese would bring lunch to the rooms where I would run games and activities in English (occasionally using Japanese to help students better understand) for roughly 20 to 40 people for 30 minutes to an hour. Planned special events outside the church where church members, English students and people outside the church would attend to better their English, create and nurture friendships and learn about the love of Jesus Christ through fellowship at the events. Each year I planned a Hanami party and Momiji party. These events are specific to Japanese culture. Hanami is celebrating the coming of spring by going outdoors to place where Sakura cherry blossoms can be viewed and enjoyed while eating, drinking and relaxing with friends and family. The same goes for Momiji, except this event is to celebrate the coming of autumn by viewing the changing colors of autumn leaves especially the Japanese maples. Designed and continual updating of the English webpage for the church. Provided computer advice and support to staff of the church. I will continue to provide computer advice and support when necessary even after moving back to America. Show less

      • 1996 - Apr 2021

I have worked in Japan since 1996 as an English teacher designing most of my curriculum and running my classes. I have over 600 students. The vast majority of my younger students are from 6 schools where the students range between the ages of 3 and 7. My largest class is 65 students with the average class being around 35. I have after-school programs I have been teaching kids who first started out in my kindergarten classes. I created a book back in 2006 that I have used each year since to teach children the alphabet, spelling, nouns, colors, phrases and pronunciation. In one year of teaching once a week students on average are able to listen and understand many English questions, say and write the alphabet, recall many nouns and action verbs, but more importantly read English because I have taught them how to read through phonics. Many of my adult students have been Japanese women studying to be English teachers themselves. Other students include housewives, retired businessmen and women, doctors, nurses, pharmaceutical representatives, court clerks and city hall civil servants. Show less
