Guide
-
May 2022 - Present
An emphasis on safety, and outdoor education follows me with all my clients on our trips. Through hands on experience, I take my clients through a fully scaffolded approach to proficiency in the mountains. Safety techniques with ropes and other gear, details in creating trip itineraries from mapping out routes to researching the weather, and creating comprehensive plans for emergency situations only scratches the surface of our learning experience. Guiding in a variety of environments throughout the cascades and canada, we explore a variety of skills in navigation, climbing safety and technique, glaciated travel, and more. Show less

Itinerant Music Teacher
-
Jan 2023 - Present
I am an Elementary Music Teacher fulfilling the needs of Kent School district from general music to instrumental to extracurricular music during and after school including choir, steel drums, and more. My current placement has me working with a diverse group of kids, nearly 50% of which are Multi-Language Learners, with the school even implementing a dual-language program teaching certain students both English and Spanish Language arts in a K-6 setting. My class focuses on musical literacy, along with social-emotional skills. We use a variety of instruments and tools to provide students with the skills to create, perform, and analyze music aurally and visually. Students also get the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the world around and beyond their immediate circle to find a deeper understanding of cultures around the world, through experimenting with, discussing, and performing music from a vast array of cultures. With an emphasis on practical application and life skills, students apply the same skills to a variety of settings to allow them take more ownership over their learning in the future, and have a deeper understanding of what is required to further their development beyond the classroom should they choose to do so. Choir and General Music Teacher
-
Aug 2022 - Jan 2023
I performed as a long-term substitute for the choir and general music programs of cascade middle school. We explored a variety of choir music from around the world, the drumming of west Africa, classical guitar styles from the western tradition, Orff instruments, and more. Building community and social-emotional learning opportunities is at the forefront of my daily lessons and students have the opportunity to contribute to and critique their learning environment on a regular basis to personalize it to the needs of the student.
