As a museum guide I provide 30-45 minute tours of the Rising Sun Tavern Museum to guests while dressed in accurate 18th century clothing. The museum also hosts special events and school tours. My other responsibilities include opening and closing the museum, providing customer service, handling money/payment cards, as well as the cleanly upkeep of the building and artifacts collection. I’m currently working on my third historical nonfiction book entitled “Piedmont Culture” and subtitled “A Pictorial Narrative of Folk Life in the Virginia Foothills.” The project is two years in the making and is a collection of photos, facts, stories, artifacts, etc. that convey the tobacco farming culture of Virginia’s Piedmont region. My first book entitled “Write Soon 1908-1915” and subtitled “First Hand History Through the Correspondence of a Southern Virginia Family” was published in 2019. It’s a 200 page book set up as a collection of transcribed historic letters as well as a showcase of relevant artifacts and contexts. My second book, entitled “When Piggs Flew” and subtitled “Centuries of Influence and Adversity by the Pigg Family” was published in 2020. It’s a 400 page book that serves as a multigenerational biography telling the story of the historically significant Pigg family of Virginia. Show less

I am a traditional artist who uses graphite and charcoal as my main mediums. Realism is my focus and portraits of people from the past are my favorite to draw. I accept commissions and draw portraits of other people, buildings, and animals. Additionally, I’ve sold prints of my artwork in several forms for the same duration of time.

As a group, the Fincastle Company sets up camp at historic sites, museums, and other locations. We aim to accurately educate the public on the status of life during the American Revolution. I portray a Virginia Militiaman or civilian circa 1770’s-1780’s with full reproduction clothing, accoutrements, and encampment. I have taken part in the official re-enactments of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse several years running. I have been a King’s Guard at the British Occupation of Yorktown with the 4th Company Brigade of Guards. The Fincastle Company sets up at the Wilderness Road Museum in VA; the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA; Patrick Henry’s Red Hill in Brookneal, VA; and much more. Show less
