    • Feed Stocker
      • May 2016 - Sep 2016

My daily job is to ensure all pet food and feed is stocked. To do this I walk the aisles using a scanner to capture any low or empty products to a list. After having found and stocked all low and empty products I move to checking what's left of the inventory and filling any other overstock that needs to be worked to maximize the amount of product brought out. Additionally I keep track of all the display skids for pet food and feed; when they get too low I use the forklift to retrieve all needed skids and replace what I checked previously. I may also be responsible for bring out any other products such as hardware, grass seed, tools, tractor batteries, tires and many other types of products. My other duties including early morning freight unloading and stocking; this means all store product that comes in for any department I need to stock. During open hours I also need to constantly be on alert for customers in need of assistance; As well as any phone calls that could come in. I also have to be knowledgeable with the products I work around to give the best answers I can for customer satisfaction. From time to time I may also have to complete other tasks outside of my normal regiment. Such as customer carry-outs or load-outs being the most common. load-outs can consist of being as simple as loading some T-posts or wood poles to requiring the forklift to move larger items such as heavy equipment or pallets of pellets. There may also be a time where I need to clean and/or reorganize the receiving area which can include moving, placing and racking pallets, clearing any garbage or debris, moving any items to the sales floor, putting away any loose overstock, put away any tools and equipment, bringing stacked skids outside and tossing cardboard in the baler. I would put away and check any backstock that came back from the floor, finding any suspicous balances on products to see if we were sent incorrect amounts or if stockers failed to get product on the shelf. If incorrect amounts are found I would have to send out messages to the distributing center to fix the problem. I would also have to condense and sort any carted backstock to empty and distribute any empty carts to the proper departments. There are also times when I would be called to empty any trucks that would come in during the night, these being any grocery, frozen, milk or produce/dairy trucks with the HILO. Often times this also mean interacting with the truck driver to determine which docking bay they should be dropping their load in and if necessary which trailer they need to be taking. I would also often be responsible for setting large scale ad displays, ranging from endcap displays to small shelf displays to dozens of skids on the sales floor. This could also mean if we did not recieve our proper displays that I would have to determine tie in products that would sell very well with what is on ad. Very often I would also be asked to run the department, this meaning I would be managing my peers. This often meant that I would have to determine what backstock needed to be worked. What aisles should be focused on and what responsibilities stockers would have for the night as well as directing them as work is completed. I would also often be given the duty of training any new employees, keeping them motivated and staying at a reasonble stocking pace. I worked in my father's junkyard, my duties included finding, sorting, organizing metals and parts. I would have to drive around in a truck with an attached trailer searching and uncovering valued metals and throwing out trash. I often had to determine whether or not items were of caste iron, copper, aluminum, steel or full salvageable parts.
