Research And Development Manager

Jul 2020 - Present
In the R&D Manager role at Trio I have transitioned from a lone R&D resource in a very small company (around 20 employees) to building and managing a team of R&D personnel (4 at maximum) in a medium sized company (around 100 employees) to deliver a first-to-market silicone ostomy barrier and pouch device. I am solely responsible for the management and delivery of a new product to market, built from the ground up, including design control and supporting evidence, but also additional responsibilities in areas not traditionally sitting in R&D, such as building and maintaining technical files, registrations, and developing quality specifications and standards. More recently the role has required the development, management and delivery of a programme of smaller projects including line extensions, process improvements, cost reductions and raw material changes. I actively develop and maintain a pipeline of R&D projects, develop business cases for these and champion these with leadership. I have also led an effort to introduce more structure, strategy and process to the way R&D work as we have grown from a small to medium sized enterprise. This has involved actively communicating with high level individuals such as company directors, board members and owners. I have developed a slimmed down version of a stage gate process, with the appropriate and applicable parts for this size of business. Due to the changing nature of the company in my time there, I have actively developed my softer skills in areas such as talent management, professional development, project management and high-level communication.
