Investigation of the Sierra Foothills Fault Zone in the American River Canyon, near Auburn, Ca This project assessed the significance of a segment of the Foothills Fault Zone by correlating and dating units within the regional context of the Foothills Metamorphic Belt. My work involved (1) structural mapping and field descriptions, (2) sampling rock units, (3) producing zircon separates using Franz magnetic separation and heavy liquids and (4) using the electron microprobe to verify the mineralogy of the separates and image grain mounts (5) LA-ICP-MS at Arizona Laserchron to collect detrital zircon ages to date units and characterize sediment sources. This work was then compiled into a final thesis report. This project was funded by the Provost’s Undergraduate Fellowship Award for Undergraduate Research. Grade Received: A-Advisor: Research Geologist Emerita Sarah Roeske, PhD.
