In my early Ph.D. career, I proposed two novel graph neural network models to predict protein functions and pseudogene functions, leveraging the information underlying complex biological networks. My second half of Ph.D. career was working on discovering cancer cell-specific synthetic lethality gene pairs using supervised machine learning models, especially graph neural networks and graph transformer models. The ultimate goal is to screen potential synergistic drug pairs for cancer therapy, and guide the biologists to perform the next experiment by way of active learning or reinforcement learning models.
