I served in the Generalist position at this Critical Access Hospital located in rural Minnesota. Although rural, we serve a large area. I worked mostly day shifts and took call for the ER, rotating through weekends and holidays. I also served in the Infection Control position for the facility and had the opportunity to provide education and complete reports providing infection rates for our facility.

I started in the Department of Transfusion Medicine performing all ABO/Rh, Antibody screens, and crossmatches on both patients and donors. I worked all shifts and performed many stat crossmatches for both St. Mary's and Methodist Hospitals in Rochester, MN. In 1991 I moved to the Transfusion Transmitted Virus Laboratory testing both patients and donors, both blood and organ donors, for HIV, Western Blot, Hepatitis A, B, and C, CMV, RPR, etc. I also performed Hepatitis B viral DNA testing as well as Lymes testing and Lymes Western Blot. This was a very busy lab and a very rewarding job.
