Never a dull day working at Keracol, with projects covering topics of chemical biology, chemical analysis and delivery of consumer products sustainably. I'm delighted to be able channel my analytical skills (HPLC, NMR, IR) understanding of biology and passion for sustainability in the optimization of plant material extraction processes, design of cosmetic products, analysis of hair dyes. Following my Master’s degree I became undeniably captivated by the study of Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) being done by other members within the lab. This naturally developed intrigue resulted in my decision to stay within the Wilson lab and shift my research interest. Since 2014 I have been investigating and designing peptide-based inhibitors to target both α-helix and β-strand mediated Protein-Protein Interactions. The work I have been conducting has resulted in the development of a stapled peptide inhibitor of the HIF-1α/p300 interaction (see paper below) which was achieved through the fostered relationship with out amazing collaborators at Bristol University. Work on other PPIs has also impacted other research done within the lab as I was part of the PoPPI (Perturbation of Protein-Protein Interactions) efforts to target Protein-Protein Interactions. From supervising a Master’s student to helping teach technical skills to new members, the work done within the group has helped the evolution of my technical skills but also my teamwork, communication skills and presentation skills. Completed a year in industry in synthetic chemistry working for Apex Molecular developing linker molecules designed for antibody-drug conjugates as well as supporting client based synthetic efforts. Highlights included the the teamwork needed to deliver to clients as well as the relaxed Monday morning meetings where people showed how they worked through solving their synthesis problems and what plans they had for the week ahead.
