I work solely with patients presenting with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, seizures and multiple traumas. Monitor post-surgical vital signs of orthopedic and trauma patients. As a nurse, I provide emotional, behavioral and social support to patients and their families. Monitor acute trauma injuries and chronic conditions that may cause physiologic deterioration while performing necessary interventions. ☑ My job requires that I work closely with providers and support personnel from a variety of specialties to manage patient condition and prioritize patient treatment needs. This diverse coordination experience has prepared me to communicate with physicians, specialists and medical support personnel from most any discipline. ☑ I understand the importance of accurate administrative duties including admission, discharge, transfer coordination and accurate documentation of observations, instructions and treatment methods in patient health records. ☑ My focus on process improvement led to my selection as the co-chair the inter-professional council that organizes best practices and process improvements that were implemented hospital-wide. Introduced hand hygiene education initiatives that reduced C. Diff prevalence by 20%+ and increased patient throughput after streamlining surgical scheduling. Show less

During this time, I gained diverse experience while working alongside an anesthesiologist in women’s wellness centers and overseeing pre-operative admissions and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) nursing at an ambulatory surgical center specializing in pain management, outpatient obstetrical procedures and orthopedic surgeries. Occasionally, I worked at the doctor’s clinic that handled infertility services, orthopedics, podiatry and outpatient pediatric ear, nose and throat procedures. ☑ I understand all the aspects of pre-op including patient assessment, gathering medical history and vital signs and setting up rooms and equipment for each procedure. In addition, I have also done perioperative care and assisted the anesthesiologist with patient monitoring during procedures. Lastly, I also provided post-operative follow-up, monitoring, patient education and discharge planning. ☑ I seek ways to advocate for the patient, protect their rights and do all that I can to maintain a safe, clean, comfortable and compassionate care environment. I am well-versed in all administrative aspects of nursing to include review and update of patient medication records in EHR, answering phones, scheduling and confirming appointments, calling in prescriptions and entering physician orders. My patients were children from that ranged in ages from one day to eighteen years and were suffering from traumatic injuries, seizures and post-operative surgical monitoring on an orthopedic, neurologic and trauma units. I was very fortunate to work for PHC for a short time and attend some of the finest nursing education courses. Unfortunately, the demands of the education program and my other full-time nursing position were too great a demand. Working with patients that were undergoing medical detoxification and treatment for opioid and alcohol dependence presented a unique set of challenges. It was important to offer compassionate and non-judgmental care while also ensuring that we followed strict CIWA and MSAS protocols while implementing therapeutic interventions through accurate vitals, lab interpretation and physical assessments. This patient truly required a holistic approach to healing that took into account not only their physical health, but also their psychological, spiritual, educational and developmental needs. This job was my first exposure to working with patients in a care environment. As the face of the office, I greeted patients, scheduled appointments and answered phones at the front desk. I ensured that we complied with HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations in handling, entering and transmitting patient data and personal information into PeopleSoft database. This position provided me with extensive knowledge of insurance requirements and insurance providers. This job was my first exposure to working with patients in a care environment. Our location had a database with more than 100,000 client names which I maintained and performed data entry of any changes or additions. I handled confidential personal and financial data while processing credit applications for equipment leases and purchases. The accuracy of client information - especially into the credit applications was critical to mitigating company risk. I was part of the team that supported and administered prescription benefits for federal employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield. As claims were submitted, I evaluated their benefits and either approved or denied client appeals for prior-auth medications in compliance with parameters of benefits. This position included extensive communication with beneficiaries and I constantly interacted with clients via phone, email or letters to inform them of decisions. Often, I spoke with angry or upset customers where I learned to remain calm, courteous and clear while answering questions from clients to explain and clarify insurance benefits. Show less
