Worked in the Marine Ecology lab to design, run, and analyze an experiment that tested the physiological and genetic stress of oil, dispersant, and hypoxia on anemones. RNA extractions and gel electrophoresis were run. RT-PCR (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) was also optimized. I worked for 10 weeks under Chris Kellogg, in the microbiology lab at UGGS in St. Petersburg, FL. I helped both her and the others in the lab by making media, reagents, and buffers, as well as pouring agar plates, and streaking bacteria and other microbes on those plates. I also made and ran both electrophoresis gels, and PCR. I learned and practiced DNA extraction from multiple kits. I assisted in the creation of a submersible sampling unit.
