Graduate research assistant in Dr. Jim Cowan's fisheries ecology and management laboratory in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University. My thesis research I investigated the effects of artificial light on the trophic ecology of red snapper and pelagic predators both at lit (active) and at unlit (idle iron) platforms. Specifically, I coupled gut content analysis and stable isotope analysis to investigate the short-term and long-term diet trends of platform-associated fish communities and whether artificial light drives a difference in fish communities between these two type of structures. Extensive experience in conducting offshore field research and experience with statistical analysis and laboratory techniques. Skills include research design and implementation, chief scientist on research cruises, construction and use of fish sampling gear (bandit reels, single rod and reel, etc), fish and prey identification (Gulf and Caribbean), and gut content and stable isotope analysis laboratory work. Experience creating and implementing educational lessons focusing on coastal and ocean ecosystems for various audiences incluth statistical analysis and laboratory techniques.
