I not only work in Emergency Medicine, I also work in the Internal Medicine, Oncology, and the Surgery Department. In Emergency, I/we do physical exams and triage patients to see in what order they need to be seen. I/we begin general treatment if necessary, for example, placing and IV cath, intubation, applying pressure to bleeding wounds, cooling or warming a patient, chest compressions ect. I/we then assist the doctor in any procedure that is needed to help stabilize or treat our patients. I/we admit patients into the hospital that need longer than outpatient care, including giving medications, watching ECG and other monitoring equipment, running the oxygen cage, monitoring for abnormalities, drawing blood samples, performing diagnosic imaging (X-ray, ultrasound,CT), feeding, walking, cleaning, ect. In Internal Medicine, I set up for endoscopic procedures, monitor anesthesia, perform detailed testing, assist in ultrasound procedures, speak to clients, ect. In oncology, assist in administering chemotherapy medications, placing IV caths, speaking to clients about safety concerns for them and their pets, running monitoring blood panels. In Surgery, I place IV caths, give pre medications, give and monitor anesthesia, clip and clean surgery site, move patient into the surgery suite, monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs, give medications during surgery, and recover. For the past almost 2 years I've done territory management for one of our hospital locations in Illinois. On my off days I commute to referring hospitals in the area to ensure things are going smoothly when their patients come to us. I bring materials promoting our hospital to put in their clients hands when they need extra care and have to come to our ER or specialty services. I ensure hospitals are informed about the continuing education that our region has to offer. Attending and working the community events i.e. Pet expos, cabin fever CE and more in the future is part of what I do on my off days
