Cincinnati, Ohio, United States During my tenure, the number of neuroscience trials grew from 2 to 18. My expertise is in developing and applying sensitive, quantitative neuroimaging endpoints to measure drug efficacy. I managed the imaging components of 10-15 global clinical trials concurrently: Phases 1-2 clinical trials and observational studies in neurology, rare disease and oncology. These trials used RECIST v1.1, RANO, iRANO, PCWG3 and additional sensitive neuroimaging biomarkers in accordance with the FDA… Show more During my tenure, the number of neuroscience trials grew from 2 to 18. These trials used RECIST v1.1, RANO, iRANO, PCWG3 and additional sensitive neuroimaging biomarkers in accordance with the FDA guidelines for imaging as an endpoint in clinical trials. The modalities I managed were: MRI (T1-weighted, T2-weighted, T2-FLAIR, Diffusion imaging, Spectroscopy, Functional MRI), CT, PET, X-ray, Ultrasound, ECHO. I selected, trained and managed central reviewers and third-party vendors. I developed proposals and bid defenses, evaluated protocols and performed proactive risk management. Show less

I directed an NIH-funded neuroimaging research lab within the Department of Neurology: CANDL (Connectivity and Network Development Lab). My research program used translational approaches in medical imaging (brain MRI) to bridge the gap between basic neuroscience research and clinical interventions, with an ultimate goal of creating clinically useful tools. Past projects included: 1. Creating MRI-based growth charts for use in personalized medicine; developed in R, available on GitHub: https://github.com/ini-bdds/braincharts 2. Improving the pre-surgical brain mapping protocol for patients undergoing hippocampal resection in temporal lobe epilepsy 3. Evaluating a potential MRI-based biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases 4. Identifying brain networks associated with different cognitive strategies in reading to guide future behavioral interventions in dyslexia 5. Creating an atlas of typical human hippocampal network development 6. Identifying brain development changes associated with childhood obesity with the intent to develop a biomarker for response to physical activity I led a diverse team that included over 6+ years: 3 postdoctoral scholars in biomedical engineering, psychology and computer science; 4 neuroscience graduate students; 2 biomedical engineering graduate students; 4 master's students; 7 medical students; 8 undergraduate students; and 7 high school students. Under my leadership, my team generated 500TB of analyzed data from 32TB of raw data. Show less

I completed multiple collaborative projects for mapping how the anatomical networks of the brain were impacted by surgical resection, autism, dyslexia and schizophrenia. My strength in this role was that I spoke both languages: clinical and technical. This led me to be an effective collaborator with both clinicians and engineers. Together we developed technical solutions to biological problems.

I developed software in C to compute multimodal graph theory metrics of brain connectivity integrating functional and diffusion MRI. I also applied these software tools to compare the language networks between young and elderly adults.

My dissertation work quantified the impact of acquisition and analysis variables on the reliability and validity of neuroanatomical measures from structural MRI, particularly diffusion MRI. In the process, I created and released a comprehensive analysis software package for processing diffusion MRI data command-line tools, written in C using Fortran libraries.

I developed and ran workshops on functional MRI data acquisition and analysis, including image registration and signal denoising. I wrote software in Matlab with Unix shell scripts, perl scripts, and java-based pipeline workflows to analyze functional MRI time-series data. I processed functional brain MRI data from hundreds of subjects in a large research lab studying psychiatry.
