Integrating directly with insurance companies for healthcare EDI: In order to avoid relying on a paid 3rd party clearinghouse, Kristen was responsible for implementing direct SOAP connections to numerous healthcare insurance companies. These connections allowed eligibility and claim information to be gathered in real-time and data to be processed securely on-premise. Once the connection was established, EDI was parsed and stored in a database for further processing and distribution to patients and providers. Increasing search efficiency: Kristen was tasked with the objective of allowing a patient to easily search for and identify a specific medical provider leveraging information in a very large SQL database. To achieve this, she created an auto-complete search component that incorporated the user's location into the search results. Since a full-text database search took several minutes, she created a new tokenized search index that would return results based on the start of any word. The resulting search time was decreased to less than a quarter second, causing a 30% increase in patients identifying the appropriate provider in the system. Show less

They extracted document text, applied helpful metadata, and indexed the documents to enabled efficient searching.
