    • Care Assistant
      • Aug 2021 - Nov 2022

I was a care assistant at both Busselton and Dunsborough CapeCare residential facilities. This is a role I absolutely adored as I am passionate and enthusiastic about geriatric care and found it highly rewarding. My role involved toileting, changing, showering, feeding, and providing resident support, as well as housekeeping duties. This role solidified by ability to focus on patient centred care and respond to specific patient needs. Through this employment I have become proficient in providing intimate care to those unable to care for themselves. This has greatly developed my confidence in healthcare provision through understanding many different types of people with largely differing care needs. I worked within a team of highly committed carers which was both inspiring and fulfilling to be a part of. Being able to maintain an individuals human dignity and assist them in vital everyday tasks with kindness and compassion continues to be highly satisfying and rewarding. Geriatrics is definitely an area I am interested in exploring further. Show less

This role involved working behind the medicine counter, communicating with clients, determining important information about their presentation and deciphering whether their needs would be met by over the counter medication or if they needed to be referred to the pharmacist for further investigation. I also worked in dispensary with senior pharmacists filling patient prescriptions using the robot, which involved highlighting contraindications, precautions and advice of use. This greatly developed by understanding of medications and their uses. In my role I also took blood pressure and blood glucose readings. My knowledge of medications, medical care and general mental and physical wellness grew exponentially throughout this employment. The differing patient cases evolved my understanding of all the different aspects and avenues of caring for individuals, which affirmed my calling to pursue a career in healthcare. Helping patients, alleviating their unease in certain situations, and educating patients was highly rewarding, I thoroughly enjoyed the patient interactions. I have achieved my S3/S2 certificate in pharmacy. . Show less

      • Jan 2020 - Jan 2020

This was a week long work experience giving me insight into the world of a private practice physiotherapist. It was very interesting to observe the way in which private practice physiotherapists were able to provide education, support and insight to patients within the community. We saw a range of patients including those with chronic back pain, acute injuries and patients who were post operative after a hip replacement. It was great to experience the role of private practice physiotherapists in the care of the community. Show less

This was 2 days of work experience with a physiotherapist who provides pilates based exercise classes to the community while sharing her physiotherapy knowledge through the exercises she implements. It was very interesting observing her work and understanding the anatomy and biomechanical theories behind her exercise choices. This was very insightful to witness another way physiotherapists can work within the community. This was two days of work experience in Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the UK. This involved work on the orthopaedic ward, neurological ward, respiratory ward and within the community. This encompassed helping people get out of bed after fracture/reconstruction/replacement surgery or spending long periods of time ICU, helping those with neurological conditions to build the strength and balance required to return home, assisting people with posture to increase lung capacity, utilising the bird machine and nebulisers, checking in on people at home after leaving hospital, prescribing at home strengthening exercises and referring other allied health specialties if required. This experience taught exposed me to the role of physiotherapists in both in hospital and community settings. I greatly enjoyed this experience and I treasure many of the patient interactions I had during this experience to this day. Show less
