As a 1st grade teacher, I planned and implemented whole group instruction in all subjects and intervention in reading and math. Before the school year began, I created a daily classroom schedule according to state requirements. Throughout the year, I managed student behavior using whole group management strategies and individualized self-monitoring charts to ensure that my students were focused and ready to learn. I worked with a diverse group of students, including four students learning English as a second language. Communicating with parents through conferences, newsletters, emails, phone calls, and communication apps was a vital aspect of this position. One job requirement included collecting and analyzing student data using Global Scholar Performance Series. I participated in weekly team meetings with either my grade level team or with committees that I served on. I had the privilege of serving on Oak Mountain Elementary’s Student Led Achievement Action Team to implement strategies for encouraging student leadership and goal setting. Show less

As a 2nd grade teacher, I planned and implemented whole group instruction in all subjects and intervention in reading and math. To help provide my students and their parents with resources and classroom information, I created and maintained a classroom website. I also communicated with parents through conferences, newsletters, emails, phone calls, and communication apps. To help motivate my students to be ready to learn, I used whole group management strategies and individualized self-monitoring charts. I increased students’ scores on Global Scholar Performance Series from fall to winter testing by an average of 184 points in reading foundations, 260 points in reading, and 183 points in math. Each week, I met with my grade level team to discuss teaching strategies and prepare for upcoming weeks. I participated in professional development and training sessions to improve my practice and completed Educate Alabama Professional Learning Plans by researching and implementing new teaching strategies.
