As a Detention Officer for Collin County Sherriff’s Office, I am charged with the care, custody, and control of the hundreds of inmates through direct supervision at the Collin County Jail. Since starting my career, I have completed Jailer’s Academy to obtain my Basic Jailer’s License, was promoted to Field Training Officer, and have been utilized at hiring events in the community for recruiting presentations alongside the CCSO Recruiting Department. I also am one of only two female officers on my shift to be chosen by senior leadership to be weapon certified for inmate transport and supervision outside of the facility. Daily I utilize my administrative skillset to accurately document events in detail through incident reports, keep an accurate record of inmate activity with logbooks, conduct counts, utilize the CCSO training portal (Agency 360), to give detailed feedback on each trainee under my supervision. My primary post is in the Infirmary where I complete all tasks outlined above and in addition, I communicate with medical staff including Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Psychiatrists, and other medical personnel. I also interact daily with Attorneys, the Magistrate, and my senior leadership at times including the Sherriff. In this role, I utilize my training and people skills daily to de-escalate situations, calm irate inmates, enforce policies and create an overall positive environment for inmates to enrich their lives and their mindset to reenter the community. In my short career I have had several inmates exit the CCSO, go on to complete their probationary program requirements then invite me to their graduation ceremonies as a person who made a positive impact on their life. This is an honor that I strive for! Show less
