Taught English to adults in a boutique intensive immersion course. Students attended for 5 days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in groups of two to eight people, but on average four to six. Teaching was catered to their needs and level. Only English was spoken in the classroom, and teaching was conversation-based, with supplementary assistance with reading and writing. Grammar, vocabulary, style, and expressions were taught in context as needed by the group. Clients included a large proportion of businesspeople seeking to improve their English for business communication, professionals preparing for presentations in English, people with little or no experience speaking English preparing for trips abroad, and many others looking to improve their English for various reasons. Teaching style was tailored to the group and the individual needs, and very responsive. Levels ranged from absolute beginner to very advanced (for example a researcher preparing to present her ophthalmology findings in English at a medical convention). Promoted to Advisor Teacher April 2008 In addition to teaching as above, responsible for raising teaching standards and client satisfaction throughout the course, observing teachers and offering feedback, being observed by other teachers in need of improvement, troubleshooting problems throughout the process, training new teachers, and handling “VIP” clients, including groups of upper management from large multinational companies, politicians and high-profile entertainers.
