I’ve worked together with Kong Vang for 8+ years in various capacities, including as fellow faculty members, fellow team supervisors on several award-winning animated short films, and he was Art Director for an animated short film I’d co-directed. To me, he represents the highest level of commitment, passion, and virtuosity. He is highly respected among peers and students for his dedication, professionalism, and mastery. His versatility allows him to create works in many different styles, settings, and moods. Kong possesses great patience and thrives in high-pressure, demanding environments. On several short films, Kong would be called upon to paint practically entire scenes when technical issues or lack of resources kept us from achieving a desired look. His guidance and vision defined the look of a decade’s worth of outstanding animated short films.

I have had a fortunate career as a Director, Producer, VFX Supervisor, and Educator, with a career spanning twenty years, and in that span of time working with hundreds if not thousands of Digital Artists and only a select few stand out to me. When I say stand out I mean they are the entire package, and embody excellence in their craft. I refer to the way in which they commit to their craft as well as conduct themselves amongst their peers and employers. I do not say lightly that Kong Vang is one of those very rare individuals. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Kong on several large and small scale projects for several years, so I say with certainty that Kong exemplifies this excellence. Not only can he whip out full illustrations and amazing concepts but when it comes to change orders Kong is on it, constantly and continually churning out iteration after iteration at all hours of the night till the directors visions are fulfilled. Many a time Kong's works were spot on from the fist or second iteration. This is because Kong commits, learns, adapts, and listens. And his work speaks for itself, he has an amazing style all his own but is so talented he can switch that style out for more suitable styles that match a directors or producers needs. Lastly Kong is the embodiment of a team player, he always puts others before him and this is what makes him so easy to work with, Kong is always a favorite amongst his peers. If you need an amazing Digital Artis, Illustrator, or Concept Designer and above all loyal employee look no further. I can sing no higher praise for an artist and for someone whose work and work-ethic I respect so much. I would hope that you can get to him before your competition does!

Kong's Art Direction, mentorship, and leadership were invaluable to the production of "Trouble Brewing", a short film created in the ProjectX program at Cogswell College. He was able to set the bar high on character design, environments, and lighting; he gave instruction and techniques to the team selflessly. Kong is easy to work with and he is always willing to push the envelope to create something truly inspiring. Can't wait to work with him again!
