Matt McDonald
When it comes to strategic thinking—assessing how all the micro tasks, challenges, gains, etc., fit or matter within the big picture—Ken is an expert. This ability is, fortunately for his colleagues and those who count on him, only enhanced during hectic, challenging, or seemingly chaotic times. Clearly sharpened by his career as a journalist, this skill allows him to bring clear thinking, valuable perspective, and a steady hand to the people and situations around him. Ken has been a mentor and an example to me in my young career. He cares—about people and about succeeding—and his decisions and thinking show that he is genuinely motivated by doing the right thing. He's genuine and kind, but he balances these qualities with healthy skepticism and pragmatic perspective. The result is an authentic, on-target approach. He is not distracted by things that don't matter, and he excels at analyzing the things that do matter in simple, relatable terms. In trying to sum Ken up as a colleague/boss/leader, imagining a workplace conversation with him is helpful. Whether on a busy day or a relaxed one, it will consist of spot-on analogies sometimes described with a detailed but not-too-tangental story, consideration of multiple perspectives on the situation at hand, several what-ifs, a music reference or two—and a course of action that invariably keeps all eyes focused on the prize.

Ken is a strong communicator, good project manager, and a team player. As a web developer I highly value these qualities. He is a personable guy with a strong work ethic who is ready to roll-up his sleeves and do whatever it takes to make things happen. I appreciate his ability to cut to the heart of the issues in an honest straightforward yet unoffensive manner. Ken does not hesitate to bring others in to discuss solutions that may be outside of his area of expertise. It has been a privilege to work with him over the last 5 years and bring to life many of his ideas for web sites and web applications.
