As the Campus Media Specialist of Dakota High School I: Provide an atmosphere conducive to academic study and research, to ensure the effective and ethical use of ideas, information, and technology by all members of the learning community, and to encourage an appreciation of literature and lifelong learning. Provide an environment that is intellectually and culturally accessible to learning, where students feel welcome and respected; where free inquiry, individual expression, and the ethical use of materials is a priority. Provide an organized, diverse collection of print, non-print, digital and electronic resources that support and enhance the curriculum as well as the personal interests of our learning community. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support the media center’s role as an extension of the classroom. Have implemented an instructional program, which emphasizes the importance of: media and information literacy skills, internet safety, digital citizenship, and developing skills in understanding, using, and producing media in various formats. Encourage high expectations for student success, while accommodating a wide range of differences in teaching and learning styles, methods, interests and capacities in order to promote the intellectual, personal, and social development of each student. Stress the importance of creative thinking skills, in order for students to become critical seekers and evaluators of information, and to use instructional and educational technology effectively so they may become independent life-long learners and decision makers.
