There is a phrase which may not translate in every language - ‘salt of the earth’ - it means the very essence of life, a vital ingredient without which something would be missing/wrong. Kirk is one of the few people I ever worked with that is this rare rare example from a workplace. The phrase is usually applied in a community and evokes trust, complete respect and super high value. Any team with Kirk on its side is a winning side. I wasn’t surprised when Kirk told me about his previous career in the police. But Kirk is from the police force from when everyone respected the Police and everyone trusted the police. All credit to Kirk that he isn’t ultra hardened and de-sensitised like my friends/relatives who also passed through the Police. So my direct experience of Kirk is of an ultra reliable, hard working and honest colleague. One who sticks to what’s most important whatever the challenges or stress involved. Someone who never gives up, who will always deliver. The epitome of team worker and ‘completer/finisher’ - incredibly versatile as well. And I genuinely recommend Kirk to any company and for many types of role. I already saw Kirk perform exceptionally well as a project manager and programme manager. I am so happy to see that CPD have promoted Kirk to Director level. I could see Kirk as a Senior Product Head, and I know that he is great with customers too. So stay like you are Kirk! You have done so well to move on the way you have and create a new career in a world that must be so different to that of the Police. A pleasure to have you as a colleague but also a friend !! I have known Kirk for most of my life, and he is probably the most tenacious person I have ever met. Following a 10 year career rising through the ranks of the London Metropolitan Police to become a Detective, Kirk felt that his hunger for advancement was not being met. So he decided that it was time for something different, joining the payments industry as a Project Manager. All of this while getting married, having his first child and moving house. No mean feat! I have had the pleasure of working with Kirk on a couple of projects, and I've found him to be very diligent, thorough, and open to ideas. For example, he brought a fresh new way of interacting at the (often underestimated) project kick-off stage, which was well received and has been encouraged on other projects. As well as his hunger to progress (he's already been promoted to Senior Project Manager within his first two years) Kirk is also extremely reliable, capable and headstrong - his experience in the police service seems to give him an edge in stressful situations. I would have no hesitation in recommending him for any Project Management role, in whatever industry.
