Kiringai has been an inspiration to me, his dedication, thoughtful, and positive actions are a shining example of what people can do to change the future. I hold him in admiration, and greatly enjoy his sharing of experiences and knowledge with me. He is willing to look at new solutions, and suggestions, keeping an open mind and willing to explore new ways. I cannot recommend Kiringai high enough.

Reviving GODAN to address practical engagement in line with the Nairobi DEclaration to ensure the agenda of its formation as an advocacy organization is replaced by action-based programmes that the Directorate of Research and Innovation in Kenya is leading. We are part of the Government's delivery framework.

GODAN co-hosted jointly with the Kenya government the GODAN Interministerial Conference in June 2017 whereupon the Nairobi Declaration on Open Data was adopted. While committing to help set up a South-South GODAN Secretariat Domiciled in the Ministry of AGriculture in Kenya, GODAN committed to: i) ensuring that developing countries are supported to benefit from the Global GODAN network and that those that are not yet members of the GODAN Network shall be encouraged to join; ii) avail the GODAN Network capacity and capabilities on agriculture data that is responsive to the contexts and challenges of the developing world; iii) equip developing countries with insights and guidance to allow them to release and reuse data in support of Innovation and Economic Growth, Improved Service Delivery and Effective Governance, and Improved Environmental and Social Outcomes, and iv) provide support to enable developing countries to sustain national level platforms for agriculture open data that are interoperableGODAN's Africa Agenda is to realize the foregoing, which has been given to the Africa Lead for GODAN to drive the realization of this agenda...through capacity building and policy advise. Experiential learning, driven by design thinking that is anchored on knowledge driven data science will gain a lot from open data initiatives. Working with Global Open Data initiatives such as the GODAN Secretariat, GODAN Action, Open Geo, and Geo For All, creates the traction that we must expose our students to particularly as we introduce a new thinking in African Agriculture - the Student Led Agricultural Extension (SLAE). SLAE expands the work we have been doing within the University of Nairobi so that we can inspire similar thinking in other African Universities. This does not in any way mean that we have stopped supporting CANIS and the aspirations that led to the starting of CANIS, it only means that P4CDA now supports Universities, Governments, Development Partners, and Researchers to have a model of localized development that is inspired by food system, driven value chains anchored, agro-industry and agribusiness. If you have a skillset that inspires rural agriculture...join us at P4CDA... Show less

    • Founding Executive Director Ycenter Africa, Value Chain Analyst, VACID Africa, Programme Lead, CANIS
      • Jun 2016 - Jun 2023

Kiringai an Agricultural Economist, Value Chains Analyst, a Knowledge Specialist and an ICT4Ag/ICT4D Enthusiast is been retained by GIZ/EU to advise the Kenya government on the strategic directions of reforming the agricultural sector in Kenya. He takes a leave of absence from his organizational development work at VACID Africa where he promotes efforts that seek to create knowledge that impacts agricultural policy by creating and using grassroots producer organizations. His area of research is trade intensification through producer driven value chain organizations. He founded VACID Africa as a community sustainable agribusiness innovation promotion initiative that promotes knowledge in the areas of Value Addition and Cottage Industry Development (VACID) through collaboration with communities and local champion organizations. His work identifies champion organizations as local agricultural initiatives that are lead by an individual whom VACID Africa further trains to become knowledge workers in their area through our Community Trainer of Trainer Programme. At VACID, his work encourages communities to aggregate their produce for the market through the creation of a center that supports the productive activities of communities by supporting extension of knowledge services and green energy supported storage infrastructure. Farmer groups organized within their common interest focus are supported to aggregate their produce first at their local level then at the level that links to the market as depicted in the KnowEat Hub Model on our website at www.vacidafrica.or.ke Show less

The University Senate has mandated CANIS to promote ICTs linked agricultural transformation and to offer graduate and postgraduate programmes in future focused programmes. CANIS seeks to partner with value chain support institutions and actors with a view to supporting policies and promoting programmes that impact on Kenya's food and nutrition initiatives for wealth creation and employment generation. Starting from the scratch and linking with the initiatives I have been engaged with in my past life as a development practitioner and advisor on agricultural policy, I see a clear fit in pushing sustainable development to the grassroots. Since this is a Network and a Platform Information and Knowledge Sharing, you are invited to join me as we create foodiously driven development thinking! Show less
