This position allowed me to learn about the independent pharmacy world. I participate in all aspects of the prescription filling process, including taking new prescriptions and refills from prescribers and transferring prescriptions from other pharmacies. I also have learned to package and synchronize monthly prescriptions for long term care facilities, and utilize adherence packaging for patients who wish to use it. It has also been a unique experience to be able to help coordinate and administer both Johnson and Johnson and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines in addition to regularly scheduled vaccinations. Working in healthcare during a pandemic has been an opportunity to enhance my patient counseling skills through answering questions and educating patients on Covid-19 symptoms, treatments, and prevention. Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)- Clinical Care This rotation offered numerous opportunities for medication reconciliations, discharge counseling, interaction checks, kinetic dosing and monitoring. I was able to participate in rounds with the medical team and collaboration with other healthcare professionals, which I really enjoyed. I also created and presented an informational presentation on the biologic severity markers of Sars-Cov-19 to all of the clinical pharmacy staff. Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)- Ambulatory Care This diabetes focused rotation allowed the opportunity for placing, reading, and interpreting continuous glucose monitoring devices, as well as shadowing healthcare professionals specializing in diabetes care. I was also able to consult patients’ primary care providers to prescribe glucagon, counsel patients on diabetes related medication, and perform MTMs. Additionally, I was able to assist in creating a presentation to be presented at KPhA for continuing education credit. Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) During this hospital rotation, I was able to learn about antibiotic stewardship, opioid stewardship, anticoagulant monitoring, kinetic dosing and monitoring, and 340b procedures. I was on this rotation just before the C-II laws in Kansas was changed, so I had the task of ensuring the written controlled prescriptions coincided with that law change, as well as ensuring mid-level prescribers wrote prescriptions according to protocol. I was also able to take responsibility for discharge counseling, Sars-Cov-19 vaccination clinics, and recommending over-the-counter products for patients with side effect concerns to new medications. I really enjoyed the opportunity for independence on this rotation! Show less

Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) This was a very unique rotation for me, as it occurred during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate in patient rounds, kinetic dosing, and kinetic monitoring. I also had the opportunity to learn about maintaining a formulary within a hospital setting, nurse duties and administration of medications, and anticoagulant monitoring. I was able to see many interesting cases during my time on this rotation, including a patient with situs inversus, several potential rabies exposures, and my first experience caring for patients with Covid-19. Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) This site was located inside a psychiatric facility and specialized in filling psychiatric medications, but filled all medications for their patients and staff. During this rotation, I gained ample experience filling and checking adherence packaging, counseling on psychiatric medications, performing MTMs, and recommending over the counter medications. I also had the opportunity to shadow in the pediatric psychiatric ward Genoa serviced, as well as the adult respite care facility the pharmacy fills for. Additionally, I learned how to communicate effectively with prescribers concerning potential drug allergies, drug interactions, and prescription clarification. Show less
