SENAF (Federal Secretary for Childhood, Adolescents and Families) is an institution which on the regional level is an independent governmental body and on the national level belongs to the Ministry of Social Development. I completed a full-time work placement there, in the town of El Bolson. Working mainly in the Family Empowerment Department, I dealt with very complex social issues related to the Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents. My main responsibilities were: accompanying families daily in order to resolve issues, assistance in the inter-institutional meditations, community prevention workshops, and institutional trainings. Also, I frequently attended the transitional foster home (CAINA) for children that have experienced extreme violations of their rights and had to be separated from their families. Further to this, I was involved in assisting the technical crews in conducting activities that aimed to help children develop basic life skills and identify and encourage their interests.Working for SENAF provided me with a great deal of skills and qualifications. I learned about the daily activities of the institution and the competency of other institutions. I have gained knowledge about community development strategies, working with vulnerable groups, the rights of children, adolescents and women. I have improved my organizational and problem-solving skills, teamwork, negotiation, interviewing and report writing. Moreover, I have strengthened my character, further developed my Spanish language ability in the local dialect and a socio-political understanding of the country.
