Surgery Shadowing Opportunity
-
Feb 2020 - Feb 2020
I got the chance to shadow a plastic surgeon who does breast reconstructive surgery and works with oncologists to help cancer patients. It was an experience of a lifetime; I got to hear and speak to cancer patients who were consulting with doctors of different specialties to make the right decision about their treatment options. To arrive at the safest and best decision for patients to treat cancer, they had to visit an oncologist, a radiologist and a plastic surgeon. Interestingly, It has recently become a law for all patients in Canada to be given the consultation of plastic surgeon if they decide to undergo surgery. Apparently, before this law was passed they had to ask for a consultation to get one.
