Developed & implemented NGSS-aligned, inquiry-based lessons & materials for two Regents-based Chemistry courses. Developed and implemented Common Core and NGSS-based curriculum, lessons, and materials for one Chemistry course specifically designed for students who had not been traditionally successful in high school science courses. Over the course of two semesters, served as an advisor for thirty juniors taking Introduction to Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering at NYU. Differentiated college material for high school students, and worked to explicitly teach college-ready organization, groupwork, and technology skills. Worked with the 12th grade team to identify off-track students, and propose and implement intervention plans to help them get back on-track to graduate in June. Participated in weekly observations of teachers on the 11th and 12th grade team, and implemented a new formative assessment strategies to increase student participation during mini lessons. Teacher resident in the New Visions for Public Schools-Hunter College Math and Science Teacher Education Residency (MASTER), an intensive 2-year program that supports candidates as they earn a Masters degree from Hunter College and gain firsthand experience in the New York City Schools, with guidance from a mentor teacher. Assumed the primary role designing and implementing student-centered, standards based units, lessons, materials, and assessments for two Regents Chemistry courses, resulting in a 96% Regents pass rate. Received periodic feedback from mentor teacher, and revised lesson plans and teaching methods accordingly. Assisted mentor teacher in planning and implementing lessons for two Regents Earth Science courses. Analyzed student data to inform instructional strategies, utilizing the inquiry process and targeting misconceptions. Tutored 2 struggling students two periods per week for 6 weeks, resulting in a 10-15 point increase in their Fall Chemistry grades. Worked in a geomicrobiology lab, characterizing biofilm structure and formation in a recently discovered strain of marine iron-oxidizing bacteria. Maintained a detailed lab notebook; kept lab bench neat and organized. Worked with a novel apparatus to grow iron-oxidizers on steel surfaces in vitro. Performed ferrizine assays daily. Stained samples for DNA and carbohydrate fluorescence. Used a confocal laser-scanning microscope to take 3D images of bacteria cells and associated biofilm. Generated quantifiable data from images using the 3D object counting feature of ImageJ. Prepared a scientific poster and presented research to the laboratory. Show less

Youth Sailing Program Director

Ran sailing classes for children ages 6-17. Developed the format, lesson plans, and curriculum of beginner, intermediate, and advanced sailing classes. Designed and implemented an instructor-training week. Communicated with parents, club board members, and the community to provide updates about the program.
