I led students grades K-5 in Spanish language instruction 90 minutes a week. Students were taught 90%-100% of the time in the target language. This role required collaboration across schools with other FLES teachers as well as with classroom teachers. Systems and routines were organized to maximize the time spent in the target language while providing differentiated instruction and engaging lessons. There was an emphasis on social emotional learning with mindfulness practice and community building an essential component of instruction. Show less

    • Intern in First Grade
      • Aug 2014 - Apr 2015

I interned in a 1st grade classroom at Woodman Park School under the supervision of my cooperating teacher BarBara Soris. This position was a requirement for completion of the University of New Hampshire Master's in Education Program. Daily duties incuded planning lessons for whole group, small group and independent instruction, assessing student for Response to Intervention programs and for on grade level performance, Special Education meetings, and ensuring a safe and fun environment for all students in my class. There were three students to which English is a second language and three students with Individualized Education Plans; there are many students at, below or above label, therefore differentiated instruction is the norm. This school follows the Readers and Writers workshop model for literary instruction and my class uses the Responsive Classroom model for behavioral management and community building. The internship included observation days following a protocol called Educator Rounds, three solo days--entirely independent of the cooperating teacher, first semester (August-December) and two solo weeks second semester (January-April).
