I have conducted analyses of data on skin color attitudes amongst Black women, multiracial identity development, interracial dialogues on race, invisibility among Black girls, and Black female college students ways of supporting themselves emotionally. I have coordinated focus groups and have recorded and analyzed data from these focus groups. I have coordinated and conducted many qualitative interviews and I have also coded data from these interviews. In my investigation of interracial dialogues on race, I developed a research question, identified and fostered a relationship with a program, Dialogues on Race (DOR), an inter-racial dialogue program in which student facilitators lead discussions on race for their peers, and I developed an evaluation of DOR. This included creating and assessing a training for DOR facilitators, as well as creating and validating a measure, entitled the Comfort with Racial Dialogue Scale (CRDS). Furthermore, I have composed literature reviews on topics such as invisibility among Black women. I currently act as the lead researcher on a qualitative study on the invisibility of Black girls. This has involved coordinating and assigning research roles, conducting qualitative analyses, and writing and presenting data and implications. Using narrative inquiry, my dissertation qualitatively investigates the ways in which Black female college students support themselves emotionally.

I facilitate workshops and facilitations on topics related to power, oppression, racism, racial identity, and activism for various groups of MassArt administrators, faculty, and students. I develop these workshops by using Dr. Janet E. Helms’ racial identity theories as lenses through which to encourage participants to explore the ways in which structural, interpersonal, and individual-level forms of racial oppression may influence and inform student development, academic experience, and community culture at MassArt. I provide weekly facilitations and informal psycho-emotional support for MassArt students in Compass, a mentorship program that provides resources, opportunities, and support to underprivileged students. Additionally, I act as the staff advisor to the Black Artists Union, a student group dedicated to inspiring and supporting Black students at MassArt. Show less
