Cultural Events I Guest Relations

Curated and produced a visual art exhibition and a cultural music event for which I developed the program, and organised the events. The events took place in the Cultural Embassy; a former institution and exhibition space in the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. ( more info www.kimvanbeek.com) Storytelling and sharing cultural content with an ( online) audience is centre to my projects. I developed my English writing skills by writing content based on interviews with guests with an interesting background, published on the former Lloyd Hotel website. (www.kimvanbeek.com/blog ) Speaking different languages daily, problem solving thinking, and working in a hectic international environment in a coordinating role is my second nature. My client/guest focussed thinking, language and interpersonal skills, and organisation skills are strongly developed thanks to my experience in guest relation management in the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy.

The Lloyd Hotel, a historical monument, with an innovative architectonical exhibition space - designed by MVRDV-, welcomed many cultural guests. From architects, to designers and artists. Many guests had an interesting story to tell. They were busy developing a cultural or art related project, or initiating a social debate, or they had an interesting background to share. The problem was, these guests, varying from artists to cultural entrepreneurs, often remained invisible. Widely known artists alreay have a stage. My intrinsic motivation was -and still is- to give relatively unknown talented artists a stage. Inspired on the brief meetings I had with guests in which they shared their stories I developed the 'Elevator Stories'. Interviews guided by images. In collaboration with the Cultural Embassy I made their stories visible online. Published online on Lloyd Hotel's website and social media. Examples of guests I interviewed: Saad Hajo, a cartoonist from Syria, Eddy Wijngaarde, producer of the Youth Journal in Surinam, Christine Gruber, professor in Islamic art, Celine van de Boorn, visual artist These stories attracted more public online and made the cultural network visible.
