I’m writing to recommend Kim Piket, an incredibly skilled and experienced Software Engineering manager. If you want to retain Software Engineers and other subject matter experts for as long as possible, hire Kim. Her wealth of emotional intelligence make her an extremely supportive manager who embodies servant leadership. She constantly looks for and follows through on removing obstacles our team is facing. Her highly technical background allows her to raise key questions and ideas to help our team save time, stress less, and improve software engineering practices. She gives me regular honest feedback, which is invaluable for me. She creates opportunities for connection as well as personal and professional growth for our team. For me, I find it’s much easier to learn ‘hard’ technical skills than the soft skills. Kim is one of the few managers who has been in a position to mentor me on the soft skills that I couldn’t learn from a Google search. Here are a few specifics I’ve learned from her: How to effectively manage projects within an Agile framework, avoiding communication pitfalls, prioritization of tasks when I’m not sure which direction to take, dealing with conflict, emotional intelligence and more. As managers go, Kim is top notch!

Kim Piket worked at Ruby Receptionists, starting on 2/7/2022. She was brought on as Engineering Manager to lead one of our 3 cross-functional Scrum teams, focused on our internal-facing web applications and supporting backend infrastructure used directly by our Customer Service organization, as well as our 500+ strong receptionist department. Kim has a strong background in Engineering Management with a total tenure in that role of over 12 years. She is a strong people manager. She consistently makes an extra effort to foster and cultivate an environment of growth, respect and nurturing and always keeps people’s best interests in mind. Another of Kim’s strengths is in Scrum and Agile. Through the management part of her career, she has led teams using this framework and successfully ensured that her team adopts and follows an iterative approach. She is focused on building self-organizing teams and promotes their success by ensuring that all her S/W and QA Engineers work together to find the best solutions to the technical challenges on the team. She does not dictate, but instead gives everyone an opportunity to have an equal voice in decision-making. Any company that is looking for a people and process focused Engineering Manager should definitely consider Kim.
