Kim Goertner Darling is a visual artist with a studio and teaching practice firmly rooted in observational drawing. While drawing remains at the center of her studio work, contemporary challenges have influenced Kim to explore the interface between traditional drawing and painting and new media. While she continues to draw, paint and exhibit work in traditional media, such as charcoal, oil and fresco, her recent work includes “Moving Drawing” video installations, in which conventionally conceived drawings are digitally captured and manipulated, then projected onto a gallery wall. Understanding education to be a cooperative artistic journey, with teacher and student as equal participants, Kim is committed to helping young artists develop vision and voice through observational drawing, painting and new media. She has exhibited her paintings, intaglio prints and new media work internationally, including recent shows "Drawing Itself" at the Brattleboro Museum and "Woman" at Catamount Arts. She received her BFA from Alfred University with Honors in Painting, studied painting for four years with Frank Mason at The Art Students League of New York, and received her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and she is a Life Member of The Art Students League of New York. Kim is co-director of The Intaglio Society at St. Johnsbury Academy, and, along with her husband, Bill Darling, organizes and leads an annual student printmaking trip to Florence, Italy each April.
