Drawing and Painting Teacher
-
Aug 2013 - May 2019
2013-Current -- Art Educator and Head Tennis Coach (6A) – Blue Valley High SchoolHired by BVH to grow their Studio Art program, created original curriculums and projects Drawing 1 – A gateway class to the rest of the Studio Classes, very technique focused. Purposely focused to teach all levels of artists to learn to draw better by equipping them with skills: sighting, establishing appropriate value, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through critique and individual reflection, and perseverance. Drawing 2 – A much more creative course where students are encouraged to take their skills and apply it to open ended projects geared towards college portfolio submissions. The students are expected to experiment, fail, adjust, brainstorm, photograph, and fully realize their projects. Painting 1 – A beginning level class where we focus mostly on learning about color, color identifying and mixing, along with techniques for acrylic and watercolor paints. The students will mimic Master’s paintings, create a color/texture collage to interpret, and will study formalized abstraction. Painting 2 – The major project in the class is a semester long mural where I have created a full commission process. The students must be able to back up decisions about location, purpose, message to a panel of administrators before being approved. They spend the semester problem solving painting a surface of that size. They also must choose a direction for their individual assignments. Show less
