I started as a "GS-3" Intermittent Data Entry Operator in 1987 and will be ending my Federal career as a "GS-13, Step 4" Network Engineer/Network Program Manager in 2017. In between I've been a lowly Tape Librarian, Production Controller submitting and coordinating IBM Batch Processing, IBM Mainframe Operator, COBOL Programmer for the VA Insurance,Awards & Actuarial programs, Automation Specialist of VA Mainframe Batch Processing, a HelpDesk Technician, LAN Team technician, a Microsoft… Show more I started as a "GS-3" Intermittent Data Entry Operator in 1987 and will be ending my Federal career as a "GS-13, Step 4" Network Engineer/Network Program Manager in 2017. In between I've been a lowly Tape Librarian, Production Controller submitting and coordinating IBM Batch Processing, IBM Mainframe Operator, COBOL Programmer for the VA Insurance,Awards & Actuarial programs, Automation Specialist of VA Mainframe Batch Processing, a HelpDesk Technician, LAN Team technician, a Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator, a BlackBerry Server Administrator taking care of VA customers nationwide, an Inventory Database Developer and Administrator, then was assigned to manage multiple nationwide WAN projects, such as the removal of Sprint and deployment of AT&T and Century Link T1 and DS3 circuits at the nations 58 Regional Offices including Manila and Puerto Rico. Currently, manage from 3 to 5 non-enterprise-wide projects at any given time, and am an active participant in at least 2 enterprise-wide projects at any given time. I've done everything in Information Technology that I ever wished for except work with HTML and C++, and all without a college degree due to the privilege of being able to accumulate expertise while on the job due to the trust of my superiors. I'm proud to say that not a single H1B worker had to be hired to replace me. Just the faith of my fellow American colleagues, pure drive and the 1986 purchase of Time-Life Book's 16-Book series "Understanding Computers."
