  In this position, peer tutors are expected to engage and promote positive study habits, including but not limited to: retention, test taking, study skills, and more. Tutors work with their peers towards achieving academic proficiency in their target courses. Students who receive peer tutoring more often than not leave their target course with a passing grade or higher. This role allows for hands on experience with mentorship and training.

  In this position as one of several executive board members, I work closely with various departments at the university in order to create student-led campus events that are not only entertaining, educational, but create a more engaging and inclusive environment. Additionally in this role, I work collaboratively to enrich and further the student engagement between student support services and students who can utilise these resources and advocate for their use.

  In this position, I work to develop Westfield State University’s New Student Orientation (NSO) program over the summer session. This program works to acclimate incoming first-year and transfer students to campus as they embark on a new and intimidating journey. We are resources for these students to come to as they have questions or need to find someone who may be able to assist them. Additionally in this student leadership position, I assist with the interviewing and hiring process of staff, our Orientation Leaders. I oversee a group of these students we hire who are the first faces to engage with incoming first-year and transfer students. We work together to create and facilitate a welcoming, engaging, inclusive environment for first-year and transfer students to enjoy, socialize, and learn about resources, important campus information, and more in their first few days of arrival on campus. • Orientation Leader

  In this role, I was trained to welcome and engage students to campus. I spent two weeks learning about campus resources, skills to use while engaging with students, and more. At the end of the training, myself and my fellow OL’s helped facilitate the New Student Orientation program. We met with all the incoming students and worked to socialize, educate, and help them in any way we could. Goals also included helping acclimate students to campus, create a welcoming environment, and assist in administrative tasks to help move the process along smoothly. Additionally, we were expected to plan and run 4 events on campus throughout the course of the semester, which aided in introducing me to the Campus Activities Board. Show less
